After Goa fire tragedy, Delhi halts private school recognition

India

After a deadly fire in Goa took over 25 lives, Delhi's civic body has hit pause on approving new private schools.
The move is all about making sure schools are actually safe and following the rules before letting more open their doors.

Why did this happen?

MCD's mayor said concerns were raised about some private schools being approved without proper vetting by the education committee and without adequate checks on things like building safety and fire precautions.
Now, teams will physically inspect recently cleared schools to make sure they're up to standard.

What's next for Delhi schools?

The education department has been asked for all the necessary paperwork by next week—until then, no new recognitions.
Meanwhile, the Delhi government is also planning upgrades: better classrooms and furniture, more mental health support for students, and even AI teaching tools funded through CSR.
It's all part of making school a safer place to learn.
