After Satya Niketan collapse killed 7, Delhi plans 1,100-strong SDRF
After the recent building collapse in Satya Niketan that claimed seven lives, Delhi is finally moving quickly to set up its own State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta just met with National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) officials, who laid out plans for a new SDRF battalion (potentially 1,100-strong) to work under the Delhi government.
NDRF to train and equip SDRF
Alongside the NDRF for larger or more specialized operations, Delhi's SDRF will be trained by the NDRF, which will also assist with specialized equipment.
This means faster local responses to disasters like building collapses, floods, or industrial accidents.
With states like Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra already running their own forces, this move should help Delhi be better prepared when disaster strikes.
