Ahmedabad traffic cop suspended after slapping woman in viral video
A traffic cop in Ahmedabad, Head Constable Jayantibhai Zala, was suspended after a video showed him slapping a woman he had stopped for riding her two-wheeler on the wrong side without a helmet.
The incident happened on December 19 and quickly spread online, drawing condemnation online.
What actually happened—and what's next
Things got heated when the woman, Bansari Thakkar, asked to see Zala's ID card and then dropped it on the ground.
Zala responded by slapping her hard enough to cause minor bleeding.
Both have now filed complaints against each other: Thakkar accused Zala of assault, while police registered a case against her for obstructing an officer.
As of December 20, both cases are under investigation and calls for stricter action have been made online, including by MLA Jignesh Mevani.
