Air India crash: Government denies sending black boxes abroad

After the tragic Air India Flight AI171 crash near Ahmedabad, officials have clarified that the black boxes aren't being shipped abroad just yet.
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) will decide where to decode them—either in India or elsewhere—based on technical and safety needs.
Both recorders were found soon after the June 12 crash, and they're key to figuring out what happened.

TL;DR

India has a high-tech black box lab

India recently opened a high-tech black box lab in Delhi, but if the data is too damaged for local analysis, it might still need to go overseas—likely to the US—with Indian experts keeping a close watch.
Investigators are working with international teams and hope to release an initial report within 30 days, with a full explanation expected in about a year.
