Air India passengers confront crew over AC failure

India

On July 17, 2025, an Air India flight from Delhi to Mumbai turned tense when passengers confronted the crew about a broken air conditioning system—only business class had cool air while the rest sweated it out.
Videos of the heated exchange quickly made their way online.

Flight delayed by over an hour

The flight (AI2421) left over an hour late, taking off at 3:43am instead of 2:30am.
To make things worse, passengers had to deal with a surprise aircraft swap from an A320 to a Boeing 787-8.
This all comes just weeks after a major Air India crash near Ahmedabad that killed over 260 people.

Airlines are struggling to keep standards high

India's aviation sector is under pressure—accidents are up by 14% in five years, staffing is stretched thin, and losses from accidents have topped ₹4,000 crore.
The AC meltdown on this flight is just another sign that airlines are struggling to keep standards high as safety worries grow.
