Andhra Pradesh: 5 die after consuming bitter-tasting milk
Five residents of Rajamahendravaram, Andhra Pradesh, were reported to have died after consuming milk that authorities suspect was adulterated, distributed by a local vendor on or around February 15-16.
The victims, from Chowdeswaranagar, Swaroopanagar, and Lalacheruvu areas, developed severe kidney issues and other symptoms soon after consuming the bitter-tasting milk.
Vendor detained, investigations ongoing
Police have detained the vendor and investigations are ongoing to determine responsibility and a criminal case has been registered.
Medical camps are running round-the-clock in affected neighborhoods, with 15 people, including two young children, hospitalized and several in critical condition.
The government has announced 10 lakh rupees compensation for each victim's family and statewide checks on milk vendors have been announced.
