Andhra Pradesh bans night travel on ghat roads after bus accident

India

After a tragic bus crash that took nine lives in Alluri Sitarama Raju district, Andhra Pradesh has banned night travel on ghat roads in tribal areas for the rest of winter.
The move, announced by Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha, is meant to keep people safe from accidents caused by heavy winter fog.
The ban affects routes heading toward northern Telangana, Maharashtra, Tirumala, and Kadapa-Rayachoti.

What else to know:

The ban will be strictly enforced—expect more police checks and warning signs on risky stretches.
Only experienced drivers with special licenses can operate here during this period.
On top of that, the government is giving compensation: families of those who died will get ₹7 lakh each (from state and Centre), while seriously injured passengers get ₹2 lakh and those with minor injuries receive ₹50,000.
It's a step aimed at both safety and support for those affected.
