Assam grants citizenship to 2 more under CAA

India

Two more people in Assam just got Indian citizenship through the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), bringing the state's total to four.
Notably, one of them is the first woman from Assam to be granted citizenship under this law.
Their official certificates were issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs and are valid from when they first entered India.

Who got it, and why does it matter?

The new citizens include a woman from Chittagong, Bangladesh, who moved to Sribhumi in 2007—her application was initially rejected but later approved after she reapplied.
The other is a man from Moulvibazar, Bangladesh, who settled in Cachar district back in 1975 and received citizenship through naturalization.
The CAA has sparked plenty of debate in Assam and applications remain rare—these two are among only about 40 so far.
Both recipients have since built lives and families here, adding a personal side to this ongoing story.
