Audit finds Hyderabad school zones lack warning and speed-limit signs
A new safety audit shows most Hyderabad school zones aren't as safe as they should be.
Turns out, 80% of schools don't have warning signs and 90% are missing speed-limit signs, making everyday commutes riskier for students.
These findings were just shared with city officials, UNICEF, and school leaders.
Hyderabad seeks CCTV and trained marshals
It gets more worrying: Seven out of 10 schools don't have crosswalks on connecting roads, and a similar proportion were without speed-calming measures near their gates, and most lack proper sidewalks.
Pickup and drop-off spots are missing at many schools, and not a single one has traffic cameras.
Officials now want closed-circuit television, or CCTV, installed, trained traffic marshals during busy hours, and more awareness for parents about helmet use and safe transport, especially since nearly all children in fatal bike crashes were not wearing helmets.
