Bihar announces body repatriation and doubles migrant grant to 4L
Bihar just announced it will pay for bringing home the bodies of migrant workers who die in accidents while working outside the state or even abroad.
Families will also now get double the previous compensation (₹4 lakh instead of ₹2 lakh) under the Bihar State Migrant Workers Accident Grant Scheme.
Bihar disbursed 8.67cr, app registers 6,84,708
In 2025-26 (the 2025-26 financial year), 446 beneficiaries were given assistance amounting to ₹8.67 crore through this scheme, and ₹3.35 crore has so far been granted to 168 beneficiaries in the current financial year (2026-27) / as of June 2026.
The Bihar Migrant Worker App has registered 6,84,708 migrant workers as of June 10 to help shape better social security policies.
The state also rescued 1,054 child laborers during 2025-26 and set aside funds to support their rehabilitation.
