Bombay High Court denies Udupi Swaad relief over analog paneer
The Bombay High Court just refused to help Thane's Udupi Swaad restaurant after its license was suspended by the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration.
Why? The eatery was caught serving analog paneer, a non-dairy, fake version that's now banned in Maharashtra for health and safety reasons.
The judges weren't impressed that customers weren't told about the switch, calling it "poetic justice" and saying, "You need to suffer first as you have made people suffer."
Maharashtra bans analog paneer citing health
Earlier this month, Maharashtra banned making or selling analog paneer for a year because of public health concerns.
If consumption of unsafe food results in death, penalties can be harsh: think life in prison or a minimum fine of ₹10 lakh.
The case against Udupi Swaad isn't over yet; there's another hearing coming up on September 7.
