Located in the western region of India, Maharashtra is the third largest state (by area) and the second most populous state in India with a population of 112 million. It is one of the most industrialized, wealthy and developed states in India with a per capita income of ₹1.0035 lakh (US$1,600). The state has 36 districts with Mumbai being the capital of the state.
