Devendra Fadnavis: News

Devendra Gangadharrao Fadnavis, born on July 22, 1970, in Nagpur, Maharashtra, is a former Chief Minister of Maharashtra. He belongs to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and is a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from Nagpur South West. Fadnavis has a law degree from Government Law College, Nagpur, and a post-graduate degree in business management as well as a project management diploma from the German Foundation for International Development, Berlin. Politically active from a young age, he was a member of the BJP-affiliated student organization, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), where he is said to have contributed greatly towards the party's efforts and ideologies. In 1992, at the age of 22, Fadnavis became the youngest Corporator of Nagpur, thereby cementing his position in local politics. He was appointed as the President of BJP's Maharashtra unit in 2013, and he eventually led the party to victory in the 2014 Assembly elections, thereby becoming the second-youngest Chief Minister of the state at 44. Following the 2019 Assembly elections, he formed a government with Nationalist Congress Party's (NCP) Ajit Pawar that only lasted for a few days. Uddhav Thackeray of Shiv Sena succeeded him as Maharashtra's Chief Minister in November 2019.
