Bombay High Court faults ECI for forcing Form 6 use
The Bombay High Court just called out the Election Commission of India (ECI) for making people use Form 6, which is strictly reserved for enrolling first-time voters, to update their address on voter lists.
The court said this rule basically forces voters to make false statements, which could even get them in legal trouble, a big deal for anyone trying to keep their info up-to-date.
This all started when the Salgaonkar family got dropped from the electoral roll after moving within their area.
Court reinstates Salgaonkar family
Turns out, officials were ignoring Form 8, the actual form meant for address changes, and insisting on Form 6 instead.
The judges made it clear: sticking to Form 8 is not just a technicality; it's about protecting voters from making misleading declarations.
The court ordered the Salgaonkar family back onto the list and set a new standard that could help prevent similar hassles for voters across India.
