Centre restricts Telegram ahead of NEET-UG re-exam to curb leaks
The Centre has temporarily imposed restrictions on Telegram just ahead of the NEET-UG re-exam on June 21, 2026.
According to NTA Director General Abhishek Singh, scammers were using Telegram to share fake question papers and mislead students and parents: some channels even came from countries unfriendly to India.
The move aims to protect over 2.2 million candidates and keep the exam fair.
NTA blocks 200 fake channels
NTA has already blocked around 200 fake Telegram channels that were taking advantage of features like editing old messages.
To make things more secure, they've also tightened up how exam papers are created, transported, and stored, with support from security agencies.
Singh stressed these steps are all about making sure everyone gets a fair shot on exam day.
