Chennai court extends Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi remand to Nov 18
India
Former School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi will stay in jail until at least November 18, after a Chennai court extended his remand.
He was arrested in late October for allegedly taking bribes to approve private schools.
The hearing happened over a video call, and the judge decided he should stay behind bars a bit longer.
Prosecutors cite video, lawyers seek DVAC
Prosecutors pushed to keep him in custody, saying they have video evidence and still need to question him, and another accused person is missing.
Meanwhile, Poyyamozhi's lawyers argued the investigation feels one-sided since no action was taken against those who paid bribes, and they think the case should go to a different agency (DVAC).
The court will decide on his bail request on November 10.
