Chhattisgarh: Farmer trampled by elephants attends his own funeral

India

A 60-year-old farmer, Joonas Bada, lost his life after being trampled by wild elephants while staying overnight in his fields in Jashpur district, Chhattisgarh.
Despite repeated warnings about elephant movement after dark, he stayed out with his sons and was found dead the next morning.
In a startling twist, a herd of elephants (possibly the same one) showed up at Bada's funeral the next day, causing panic and damaging several vehicles before forest officials managed to drive them away.

Eight elephant-related deaths this year

Jashpur has seen eight elephant-related deaths this year alone as clashes between people and wildlife continue.
Many locals still risk venturing into fields or forests after dusk despite official advisories.
Forest teams are now closely tracking elephant movements and issuing advisories to locals.
