China building world's largest dam on Yarlung Tsangpo near Arunachal
China is building what will be the world's largest dam on the Yarlung Tsangpo River in Tibet, right near India's Arunachal Pradesh border.
This has India worried, since the same river, which flows into India as the Siang before becoming the Brahmaputra, flows into key states like Arunachal and Assam.
Even though India has objected, satellite images show that construction is moving fast.
India demands transparency, boosts flood monitoring
India's government says this dam could mess with water flow, raise flood risks, and harm local ecosystems downstream.
They are pushing China for more transparency and data sharing about the project.
Officials also say they are stepping up flood forecasting and monitoring in the Northeast to help protect people who depend on the river for their lives and livelihoods.
