Cyber fraud costs BHC judge ₹6 lakh
A Bombay High Court judge lost ₹6.02 lakh to cyber fraud while trying to redeem credit card points from a private bank.
Unable to reach official customer care, she called a number found online and received a suspicious WhatsApp file for a mobile app.
Scammers convinced her to use Android phone
When the file didn't open on her iPhone, the scammers convinced her to use an Android phone: she borrowed her house help's device, put in her SIM, downloaded the app, and entered her card details.
Four unauthorized transactions followed, draining ₹6.02 lakh from her account.
FIR registered, suspects being tracked
The judge quickly blocked her card and reported the case both online and at the police station.
Authorities have registered an FIR under multiple cybercrime sections and are tracking down the suspects' phone numbers and bank accounts.
This incident is yet another reminder: always double-check helpline numbers and think twice before downloading unknown files or sharing sensitive information online.
