Cyclone Shakhti strengthens over Arabian Sea, rough seas along Gujarat coast
Cyclone Shakhti, the first cyclone of 2025 in the Arabian Sea, has strengthened over the Arabian Sea.
The IMD says it's about 420km away from Dwarka and is causing rough seas along the Gujarat-Maharashtra coast.
Wind speeds are up to 65km/h, but no landfall is expected in Gujarat as the cyclone remains offshore.
What to expect in Maharashtra and Gujarat
If you're in Mumbai, Thane, or Raigad, expect light rain through October 8; Palghar could see heavier showers that day.
The Maharashtra government has activated disaster plans and issued safety tips for coastal areas. Fishermen are being told to stay off the northwestern Arabian Sea for now.
While parts of Gujarat like Dwarka and Jamnagar might get heavy rain on October 8, overall impact there should be minimal as Cyclone Shakhti is set to weaken after October 6.
