Delhi driver fired after speaking up for contract workers
India
Pankaj Sharma, who drove for Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), says he lost his job after supporting protests about poor working conditions.
Let go in October 2025, Sharma is now taking legal action and wants the government to step up for workers' rights.
What's going on at DTC?
Sharma worked at the Nand Nagri depot since 2018 and says nearly 27,000 contract staff face tough hours—often over eight a day—with no overtime pay.
Drivers are paid per kilometer while conductors get daily wages, he shared.
He also pointed out that safety issues are ignored; one colleague was killed by a mob and only received ₹5 lakh compensation.
Sharma hopes his case pushes the government to make things safer and fairer for DTC workers.
