Delhi-Mumbai Expressway completion pushed to 2027-28
If you were hoping to zip between Delhi and Mumbai soon, you'll have to wait a bit longer.
The massive 1,350km expressway—originally set for March 2024—is now expected to be ready by 2027-28.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari shared the update in Parliament, noting the highway will cut across five states: Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra.
Where things stand (and why it's delayed)
The first phase near Delhi is almost done at 94% and should wrap up by June 2026. But big stretches are still unfinished.
This isn't just a one-off delay—Gadkari pointed out that more than half of India's national highway projects are running late right now.
Even so, India managed to build over 3,400km of highways this year—though that's still far from the annual target of 10,000km.
