Delhi-NCR's pollution rules just got stricter: Here's what you need to know

India

Delhi-NCR is rolling out Stage IV of its anti-pollution plan after the air quality index approached 450—yikes, that's "Severe+."
Starting December 18, expect tighter rules on vehicles, offices, and construction to help bring pollution down.

What's banned (and what's still allowed)?

BS4 diesel vehicles are now completely banned from Delhi. If your private vehicle isn't BS6 and registered outside NCR, you're also out of luck.
Petrol pumps will only give fuel if you show a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate—no PUC, no fuel.
The good news? BS6 diesel cars with a valid PUC can still hit the road as long as they aren't visibly polluting.

Changes for work and construction

Offices—both government and private—have to switch to work-from-home for at least half their staff (emergency services get a pass).
All construction is paused for now; workers affected by this will get ₹10,000 in compensation.
Trucks carrying building materials are also off the roads until things improve.
