Delhi to ban new petrol 2-wheeler registrations from April 2028
Delhi is getting serious about going green; starting April 2028, you won't be able to register new petrol two-wheelers in the city.
This big move is part of Delhi's updated Electric Vehicle Policy, even though some auto industry groups aren't thrilled.
They're worried about things like battery imports and the fact that most of India's electricity still comes from coal.
Delhi draft policy offers e-bike incentives
The new draft policy (open for feedback since April) will take over once the current one ends in June.
It'll run until 2030 and aims to get more electric two-wheelers on the road; they accounted for more than 7% of two-wheeler registrations in the last two financial years.
To help with the switch, buyers can get incentives on e-bikes priced up to ₹2.25 lakh, starting at ₹10,000 per kWh (but these perks will shrink each year).
The plan also bans new CNG autos from January 2027 and pushes for electric fleets and school busses, because two-wheelers are such a huge chunk of Delhi's traffic.
