Delhi traffic hits dead end thanks to road restrictions

India

On Friday, Delhi pretty much hit pause as huge traffic jams took over the city.
The chaos was thanks to road restrictions for two major events—a massive foot march led by Dhirendra Krishna Shastri (with over 30,000 people) and the 150th anniversary of 'Vande Mataram' at Indira Gandhi Stadium, which even saw PM Modi attending.
Restrictions lasted from early morning till 2pm.

Parking was a no-go on key roads

Major routes like Ring Road, Outer Ring Road, Aurobindo Marg, MG Marg, Vikas Marg, and areas near ITO and Rajghat were regulated or diverted.
Parking was a no-go on several key roads—if you parked anyway, your ride probably got towed.

Social media flooded with posts about gridlock

The gridlock made getting around central and south Delhi nearly impossible—and if you were trying to reach Gurugram or Faridabad, good luck.
Social media was flooded with frustrated posts about endless waits and terrible signal timings.

Traffic police put out advice for commuters

Delhi Traffic Police put out about 200 officers to manage things and only stopped traffic briefly for VVIPs. Still, delays lasted all day.
Their advice: avoid affected roads if you can and keep an eye on live updates before heading out.
