Doctors charged with homicide after 3y-long probe into COVID death

India

Six doctors from a hospital in Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra, have been charged with culpable homicide, fraud, and forgery after allegedly mishandling the COVID-19 treatment of 79-year-old Babanrao Khokarale back in 2020.
Authorities say the doctors faked his COVID-19 report and gave him the wrong treatment, which led to his death.

HC had to intervene for action to be taken

The case was finally registered at Topkhana police station on October 15, 2024, after the Bombay High Court ordered action.
Khokarale's son had pushed for justice since 2022, pointing out that a 2021 civil surgeon's report confirmed medical negligence but nothing was done.
The family also claims the hospital withheld the body, leaving them hoping for closure and accountability.
