Eighth Central Pay Commission to recommend pay and pension rules
The eighth Central Pay Commission (CPC) is gearing up to recommend new pay and pension rules for about 50 lakh central government employees and about 65 lakh retired pensioners, including those in railways and defense.
Set up by Prime Minister Modi, the commission wants to make sure public servants are paid fairly while also keeping an eye on the government's budget.
Suggestions from stakeholders wrapped up on June 15, but there's still time to submit information online until June 30.
Desai heads pay commission, recommendations mid-2027
The panel is led by Former Supreme Court Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, with experienced bureaucrat Pankaj Jain, former IAS, as Member-Secretary, and tenured Professor of Finance, Decision Sciences and Public Policy at IIM Bangalore and a Member of the Economic Advisory Council (EAC) to the Prime Minister, Professor Pulak Ghosh, a Member of the Commission, rounding out the team.
They'll be talking with unions and pension groups before sharing their final recommendations by mid-2027.
With their mix of legal, administrative, and policy know-how (Ghosh even helped shape big schemes like PM-Kisan), they're set to tackle close to 50 lakh central government employees and about 65 lakh retired pensioners, including defense personnel and retirees.
