Equirus: India could produce 62 million metric tons CBG annually

India has the potential to produce a massive 62 million metric tons of compressed biogas (CBG) annually by using organic waste, according to a report by Equirus.
The largest share comes from animal waste, which alone could deliver 41% of the total.
Crop leftovers and city garbage also play big roles in boosting these numbers.
India needs better organic waste collection
The report points out some real challenges, like only a small share of animal waste gets collected because it's spread out in villages, and crop residue needs to be gathered quickly after harvest.
Plus, just about half of urban food and wet waste is actually usable.
The takeaway? Better collection and transport systems are key if India wants to unlock its full biogas potential and strengthen its energy security.
