Explained: What is the Viksit Bharat G-RAM-G Bill

India

Prime Minister Modi just spotlighted a new bill—the Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Bill—calling it a "must-read" and highlighting that the bill is not a retreat from social protection, but its renewal.
The bill's big promise? More guaranteed workdays for rural families, smarter local planning, and a push to modernize how rural jobs are managed.

Why does it matter?

This bill plans to swap out the old MGNREGA scheme with something bigger: 125 days of paid work per rural household each year (up from 100), plus digital payments linked to Aadhaar for faster payouts.
With new funding rules and more focus on building things like roads and water projects, the idea is to boost job security, make life in villages more stable, and increase state responsibility for implementation and funding—all while making sure money gets where it's needed without delays.
