Farmers' protest in Punjab turns violent, several injured
Nearly 50 farmers' unions gathered in Bathinda on Friday, March 6, 2026, led by BKU (Ekta Ugrahan), calling out alleged police excesses during February protests.
They are demanding action against top officers, compensation for injured activists, and withdrawal of FIRs registered against more than 2,000 activists/farmers.
Dialogue could have prevented all this: BKU president
This is not just about one protest: farmers say their right to protest is being curbed and want serious charges, including attempt-to-murder, dropped (number of people not specified).
The clashes also began over demands to release two jailed union leaders.
As BKU president Joginder Singh Ugrahan put it, Dialogue could have prevented all this.
The situation reflects ongoing tensions between farmers and authorities in Punjab.
