Fatal accident at Chennai Metro construction site

A serious accident hit Chennai on Thursday night when two huge Metro construction girders suddenly fell near the L&T head office in Manapakkam. The collapse happened during work on the new Metro line, and sadly, a motorcyclist was killed.

Girders fell from 20-30 feet above road

Early reports suggest the support frame holding up the girders slipped, causing them to crash down from about 20-30 feet above Mount-Poonamallee Road. Rescue teams rushed in to clear debris and recover the victim, whose body may still be trapped. Police have started an investigation into what went wrong, while traffic has been diverted as cleanup continues.
