Fire at Rainbow Children's Hospital Vijayawada early Wednesday, patients safe
A fire broke out early Wednesday at Rainbow Children's Hospital in Vijayawada, starting in the emergency ward and sending smoke up to the first floor.
Thankfully, the patients, including babies, were safely evacuated to a nearby hospital, and no injuries were reported.
Firefighters responded within minutes of the 8:12am emergency call and quickly got things under control.
Short circuit suspected in casualty ward
Officials believe a short circuit started the blaze and led to an air-conditioner burning in the casualty ward.
The hospital's fire alarm and sprinkler systems kicked in right away, helping staff move patients out fast.
Fire crews worked closely with hospital staff to make sure everyone was safe.
Authorities are investigating what happened, but for now, everyone is just relieved that quick thinking prevented a tragedy.
