Fire engulfs cargo ship off Indian coast

A major fire broke out on the MV Wan Hai 503, a Singapore-flagged cargo ship carrying over 2,000 tons of fuel, after an explosion in one of its containers. Now drifting about 42 nautical miles from Kerala's Beypore port, the incident has raised real concerns about possible damage to the marine environment.

TL;DR

ICG has deployed 5 ships, 2 aircraft, 1 helicopter

The Indian Coast Guard quickly sent five ships, two aircraft, and a helicopter to tackle the blaze and try to secure the drifting vessel. Out of 22 crew members onboard, 18 have been rescued so far—four are still missing. Teams are working against tough sea conditions to prevent further harm and find those still unaccounted for.
