Goa government appeals Tarun Tejpal acquittal in sexual assault case
The Goa government is pushing back against the 2021 acquittal of former editor-in-chief of Tehelka Tarun Tejpal in a high-profile sexual assault case.
They believe the court focused too much on the complainant's personal life and not enough on the actual allegations, leading to what they see as an unfair verdict.
Tushar Mehta defends complainant's credibility
In their appeal to the Bombay High Court, state lawyers say the trial was mishandled, pointing out that questions about the complainant's habits and relationships were irrelevant.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta called her forthright and said, "She has remained sterlingly steadfastly the same from day one" and "See the truthfulness of this witness...", despite attempts to challenge her credibility.
The case is now awaiting review.
