Goa nightclub fire: Luthra brothers in police custody

India

Gaurav and Saurabh Luthra, co-owners of Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in Goa, have been placed in five-day police custody after a tragic fire at their club on December 6 claimed 25 lives.
The blaze reportedly started when electric firecrackers set off a wooden ceiling during a crowded event.

What happened next?

Soon after the incident, the Luthra brothers fled to Thailand but were caught by Thai authorities following an international alert from Goa Police.
They were brought back to India on December 16, 2025, and underwent health checks before being remanded.
The court denied their request for special treatment in custody, saying there was no medical need.
The brothers now face serious charges for negligence and violating safety rules as investigations continue into what caused the deadly fire and what went wrong with safety protocols.
