What's the story

The Goa Health Department today ordered a probe into the alleged embezzlement of around Rs. 6.5 lakh from the treasury of state-run Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said no proper inquiry was conducted since the money was siphoned from the treasury of GMCH in 2016. The health department recently suspended four officials for the alleged involvement in the case.

Entire matter was hushed up; have fresh ordered probe: Rane

Rane claimed during his routine visit to the GMCH today, he was told about the misappropriation in 2016. However, the dean or the then administrator took no action, he said. "There was an inquiry (previously) which was an eyewash and the entire matter was hushed up. I have ordered a fresh and detailed inquiry into the matter...we will also recover the money," he said.
