GPS spoofing messes up Delhi airport, flights diverted to Jaipur
India
Delhi Airport had a rough Tuesday evening when GPS spoofing—basically, fake satellite signals—messed with aircraft navigation.
Even though the runways were open, shifting winds and GPS spoofing meant seven flights (including IndiGo and Air India) had to head to Jaipur instead.
The chaos was made worse by VIP aircraft movements at the same time.
Experts call for better backup systems
On that night, Delhi ranked second globally for airport disruptions, highlighting bigger worries about aviation safety.
In 2024 alone, airlines reported over 4.3 lakh cases of satellite signal jamming—a huge jump from last year.
With incidents like these on the rise, experts say better backup systems are urgently needed to keep flights safe as air travel keeps growing.
