Gujarat: Bootlegger shot after trying to strangle head constable
On March 13, Gujarat Police shot a bootlegger named Sukhlal Dangi after he allegedly tried to strangle a head constable while being transported from Udaipur to Gandhinagar.
Dangi, who was handcuffed between two officers in the back seat, reportedly used his shackled hands to attack the driving head constable, Jagdish Ranchhod.
Both Dangi and Ranchhod got 1st aid
Inspector B H Rathod warned Dangi before firing his Glock pistol, with the bullet exiting through the rear/back right door; the vehicle meanwhile scraped a roadside railing and came to a halt.
Both Dangi and Ranchhod got first aid at a local health center; Dangi was later moved to another hospital.
Already facing serious bootlegging charges under anti-organized crime laws, Dangi now has additional cases against him, including attempted murder and assaulting a public servant.
This is the second such incident involving Gujarat's State Monitoring Cell in three months.
