Gujarat clears up who handles Pakistani fishermen case after arrest near Kutch
India
Eleven Pakistani fishermen were caught by the Indian Coast Guard on December 10, 2024, after their boat was found 1.5 nautical miles from the Indian baseline near Jakhau, Kutch, placing them inside Indian territorial waters.
They're accused of entering India's side illegally and violating fishing laws.
What's happening now?
After some back-and-forth over which police station should handle things, the case has landed with Gujarat's Coastal Security Wing.
The fishermen are being questioned at Bhuj's Joint Interrogation Centre to figure out if they crossed the border by mistake or on purposeāand whether any minors are among them.
As Kutch (West) SP Vikas Sunda put it, what happens next depends on what comes out in these joint interrogations.
