Gurmeet Ram Rahim acquitted in journalist murder case
Big update from the Punjab and Haryana High Court: Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, leader of Dera Sacha Sauda, has been acquitted in the 2002 murder of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati.
Chhatrapati, who edited Poora Sach newspaper, was shot outside his home after reporting on alleged sexual abuse by Singh.
The High Court overturned a previous conviction against Singh but kept two other men guilty in the case.
Singh still serving sentence for rape
Singh was originally sentenced to life in prison for the murder back in 2019, but this new verdict changes that for him, though not for his co-accused.
Meanwhile, Singh remains in jail in connection with other convictions, including rape cases.
The judgment has prompted public attention and reactions, and observers are awaiting the detailed judgment and next steps.
