Gurugram police detain 13 Bangladeshi nationals living without legal documents
Gurugram police were conducting an ongoing 10-day drive and ended up tracing and detaining at least 13 Bangladeshi nationals who were living in the city without legal documents.
Officers checked at least 900 people across Sohna and Manesar, focusing on rented homes, slums, and construction sites.
The group couldn't show valid Indian IDs when asked.
Police say illegal Kaliaganj crossing
Police say the group entered India illegally through the Kaliaganj border in West Bengal, dodging patrols with help from agents who placed bamboo stairs over the fence and were helped by suspects on the Indian side too in crossing it safely while keeping an eye on security movement.
After reaching Gurugram by train via Delhi, they found work as daily wage laborers earning around 18,000 to 20,000 rupees a month.
Some had only been here two months but were already sending money home.
Authorities also found them trying to get fake Indian IDs.
Deputy commissioner of police (crime) Hitesh Yadav said, "deportation proceedings will be initiated as per law."
