Heavy rains flood Kolkata, trigger Darjeeling landslides and IMD alerts
Rains continued till Friday afternoon, triggering flooding in Kolkata and adjoining south Bengal districts and multiple landslides in the Darjeeling hills.
Rivers like the Teesta and Balason were close to danger levels, and the IMD has put Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar on red alert for extreme rainfall.
Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and even Kolkata are on orange alert as the weather gets more intense.

In Darjeeling, a bridge collapse and landslides have disrupted key routes like NH 110.
Kolkata is dealing with heavy waterlogging: major roads are underwater and some schools had to cancel classes just before the International Day of Yoga.
With 80mm of rain in just three hours on Friday, KMC officials have pumping stations and other drainage measures pressed into action, civic personnel are on alert, and the KMC is monitoring the situation from a control room and remains on high alert.
