IEA: India to reach 530 GW renewable capacity by 2030
India's aiming big on clean energy: renewable capacity is expected to hit 530 gigawatts by 2030, and solar power will drive most of this growth.
According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), solar alone will account for over 80% of new capacity, helping India stay strong as the world's second-largest renewable energy growth market.
In fact, by late 2026, India had already crossed the 300-gigawatt mark, almost four times what it was just 10 years ago.
India renewables reach 35% by 2030
Renewable electricity in India is on track to nearly double between 2025 and 2030, jumping from about 25% to 35% of all electricity produced.
The IEA points out that getting there means tackling some big challenges like upgrading transmission networks and building better energy storage.
If these hurdles are cleared, India could boost its green power even more, by more than 20% during 2026-2030 (by 2030), with continued investment making those ambitious clean energy goals feel a lot more possible.
