IMD issues red alert for Jalpaiguri Alipurduar over 20cm rainfall
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has put out a red alert for Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar in West Bengal, warning of intense rainfall (over 20cm) this weekend.
Flooding and landslides could hit hard, while Kolkata and other southern districts are in for steady rain, thunderstorms, gusty winds, and sticky humidity.
IMD urges stay indoors NH110 blocked
Kolkata's been drenched since Friday, bringing some relief from the heat but also causing waterlogging in spots like Shyambazar and Gariahat.
The IMD is urging everyone to stay indoors during storms and avoid risky spots like open fields or near electric poles.
Up north, landslides have blocked National Highway 110 and the temporary Dudhia bridge, cutting off routes like Siliguri to Mirik, so travel plans might need a rethink.
