IMD: Monsoon to pick up across India next week
After a sluggish start, the monsoon is set to pick up across India next week.
The IMD says a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal will help rain reach more of eastern, central, and northwestern India, good news for East Uttar Pradesh that have been waiting for showers.
Low near Odisha coast
A low-pressure area is likely to form near the Odisha-West Bengal coast around June 25, which should boost rainfall in several regions.
Rain along the west coast will also return from June 22 and move north toward Mumbai and Surat.
While El Nino has made this year's monsoon patchy so far, experts like Director of the Application Laboratory at the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology and Visiting Professor at the University of Tokyo Swadhin Behera say a positive Indian Ocean Dipole could ease things later in the season, even though overall rainfall from July to September might still be below normal.
