IMD warns Kolkata, 10 South Bengal districts of Saturday storms
Heads up, Kolkata! The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has put out a yellow alert for Kolkata and 10 districts of South Bengal, with thunderstorms, lightning, and moderate rainfall expected on Saturday.
After a stretch of muggy days, Friday brought some much-needed clouds and light showers, so you might finally get a break from the sticky heat (though it could make getting around a bit tricky).
Downpours in North Bengal cause landslides
Rain is set to pick up over the weekend, with gusty winds possibly hitting 50 kph during storms.
Districts like East and West Burdwan, Purulia, Bankura, Nadia, Murshidabad, Birbhum, Hooghly, and North 24 Parganas are all on alert.
Meanwhile, in North Bengal (think Darjeeling and Kalimpong), the heavy downpour has already caused landslides and even washed away a temporary bridge.
If you're in those areas or planning to travel, stay safe and maybe rethink any non-essential trips until things calm down.
