IMD warns of thunderstorms, heavy rain in North Bengal
Heads up, Bengal!
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has put out an orange alert for North Bengal (think Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar), expecting heavy rain and thunderstorms over the next two days.
South Bengal districts like Howrah, Hooghly, and 24 Parganas are under a yellow alert for lighter showers starting Sunday.
Lightning, gusty winds expected; take precautions
Thunderstorms in North Bengal could bring gusty winds (40 to 50km per hour), lightning, and may cause hazards; residents should take precautions, so it's smart to stay indoors during bad weather.
Kolkata's temps are sticking to March norms (around 33 to 35 degrees Celsius), with a few rainy days ahead.
The IMD suggests taking shelter when storms hit, and residents are advised to take shelter during thunderstorms. Stay safe!
