India cuts prices of 137 cancer drugs saving over ₹3500cr
India
Starting November 9, prices for 137 anti-cancer drugs are getting a major cut, saving patients across India over ₹3,500 crore rupees each year.
This move comes after the government capped trade margins at 30%, with the Supreme Court keeping an eye on things.
The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) says this will make cancer treatment much more affordable.
Over 50% cuts for 600 brands
600 brands will get a price cut of over 50%, with some dropping by as much as 96.45%.
For example, Bevacizumab now costs 3,318 rupees instead of 25,995 rupees, and Denosumab drops from 24,955 rupees to 6,240 rupees.
Pharmacies and hospitals have to clearly display the new prices so everyone can see the change.
