India launches free HPV vaccination for 11.5 million girls
India
India just rolled out its biggest-ever free HPV vaccination program, aiming to protect 11.5 million 14-year-old girls each year from cervical cancer.
The Gardasil shot will be available at government health centers through the U-WIN app, making it easy for families to access.
Cervical cancer hits India hard
Cervical cancer hits India hard: about one-fifth (20%) of global cases are in India, with thousands of lives lost every year.
This 90-day campaign (with daily drives) hopes to change that by offering the vaccine before most girls become sexually active, cutting their risk by up to 90%.
