India Petroleum Ministry denies 2,000-km Oman to Gujarat pipeline talks
Heard about that massive underwater pipeline from Oman to Gujarat?
India's Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas just shut down the rumors, saying there are no talks or plans for a 2,000-kilometer energy pipeline with Oman or any Gulf country right now.
Their statement was pretty clear: "No such proposal is currently under consideration," especially with all the buzz around energy security due to tensions in West Asia.
MEIDP stalled by costs and engineering
The Middle East-India Deepwater Pipeline (MEIDP) has been floating around for over 30 years as an ambitious plan to bring natural gas straight from Oman to India, skipping risky sea routes.
But it's always been stuck because of sky-high costs, tough engineering (think: more than 3,000 meters underwater!), and questions about whether it would actually work.
Even though it continues to feature in strategic and policy discussions as a potential long-term option, the government says nothing is actually happening on this front right now.
